The Creation of Nova Sparta

The ancestors of Nova Sparta (The original Spartans) lived in peace and harmony. They had an empire that stretched across countless worlds, that lasted for millennia. However, over the course of 3,000 years, the Spartan civilisation would be completely destroyed. Contact was made with an ancient, amphibious race called the Hoth. They viewed the Spartans as primitive compared to their race. Slowly, they began to invade Spartan space. The Spartans could not put up with the raids anymore, and called for war against the Hoth. This, though inevitable, was a grave mistake. The Spartans, although valiant in battle, could not compare with the sheer technological might of their alien adversaries. The Hoth were ruthless. They incinerated thousands of worlds, burning them out of the sky. They hunted the Spartans to the very brink of extinction.

However, the Spartans succeeded in one last bid for survival. Leodon Koronus (Now praised as the 1st Spartan) gathered all of the remaining population of the Spartan home planet, and began the construction of a gigantic Colonisation Ship. An excerpt from his speech to the Spartan population:

"The Hoth are relentless. They are destroying our colonies, our military, and even our way of living. It is only a matter of time until they emerge on our homeworld. When they do that, they will kill everyone. The women, the children, the elderly. Everyone will die. Unless, we pool all of our remaining resources into the contruction of a Colonisation Ship. We will pack everyone onboard, and head for a world where the Hoth cannot find us. It is the only way to preserve the Spartan civilisation. If not, then the future is lost."

And so, Leodon had the Colonisation Ship constructed. The entire population of the Spartan Homeworld was loaded onto the ship. The ship set off, for a new world. However, Leodon would not see this new world. He had mustered up all of the remaining Spartan forces, and mounted a final defence of the Spartan Homeworld. Although brave and noble, it was ultimately futile. The last defence was an attempt to delay the Hoth while the Colonisation Ship escaped. This desperate gambit paid off, and the ship set off to a new world.

When the survivors arrived, they had found the perfect paradise with which to start anew. The planet they had found was rich in plant life and had fast oceans covering the surface of the planet. However, when the survivors tried to colonise the planet, there were problems with the ship. Due to the imminent threat posed by the Hoth, the ship was built in very little time. The systems weren't 100% foolproof and hadn't been tested fully. This meant that when the ship began colonisation procedures, it created a planetary cataclysm that turned the planet into a desert wasteland.

The colonisation ship itself was ingenious. It was designed with a large ring that was attached to the front of the ship. When colonisation was initiated, the ring would fire off of the ship towards the planet, impacting the surface and creating a zone inside the ring where the ship would impact into the planet like a meteor. The ring was designed to absorb any shockwaves given out by the impact, thus preserving the stability of the planet's delicate environment. However, when the ship smashed into the planet, the ring was faulty, and didn't absorb all of the shockwaves. This sent out tremors into the planets unusually thick crust. The tremors caused massive cracks in the surface of the planet, which drained the surface of all of it's water, killing off plantlife relatively quickly. The water has now accumulated in a huge cavern near the base of the crust, creating a swamp-like habitat. There are rumours of plantlife existing in this cavern, however those rumours have not been fully investigated.

The colonisation happened 300 years ago.

Now, what was once a small pocket of survivors has transformed into a new Spartan Empire. Much more technologically advanced than their ancestors and much more powerful, their empire is under a new banner. That banner is Nova Sparta.

Recent History

Y299/M11/D26 - Nova Sparta's leader Pyronus Gordalon, the 41st Spartan, dies in his sleep, having lived to the age of 83. All of Nova Sparta turn to the Prophets.

Y300/M3/D8 - After consulting the Prophecies, the Prophets name the new leader of Nova Sparta. The new leader is Grand Warmaster Sammster Rukhan, now the 42nd Spartan.

Y300/M3/D27 - Grand Warmaster Sammster Rukhan orders the expansion of the Nova Spartan Space Navy. Multiple Star Forges are constructed in order to meet the demand for more warships.

Y300/M4/D12 - A record number of people enlist into the Nova Spartan Armed Forces. Probably enspired by the rapid growth of the Space Navy, such an amount of new recruits has not been seen since the days of the 26th Spartan.
